Self-esteem:
Confidence in one's own self worth and abilities
One of the things that I have been struggling with for a couple of
years now is a low sense of self-esteem. I can clearly trace this to just
after I became a mother. In the craziness of embracing this new chapter
in my life, I sank deeper and deeper into an abyss. To make matters worse there was this one person whose biting
words were on replay in my head and whose approval I desperately sought.
Once the haziness of all this confusion wore off, I finally started
seeing the futility of pursuing a relationship with this person. I
started noticing how much my confidence had diminished. I never felt
good enough. My dressing and consequently my love for fashion which I
share with you on this blog, suffered a lot as I tried to change so as
to please this person. I couldn't bring myself to do those things I
loved or work towards achieving my dreams because this person didn't
approve. But once I decided to stop pursuing this friendship, I noticed a big change in how I thought and how I carried myself. It became easier to do those things I loved, things as simple as dressing the way I liked, without constantly having negative comments thrown my way. This outfit is my statement to my growing self-esteem. It embodies trends that I currently love and that make me feel good about myself and my ability to put together an outfit that is a reflection of me and not of who someone else expects me to be.
One thing I have learned is that in order to grow in self confidence, you first and foremost need to get rid of those people and thoughts that make you feel bad about yourself and your abilities. You're an amazing person and you have a lot of good to offer this world. Believe in yourself and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
