Style Challenge Day 11 - Swap Your Heels for Sneakers

Image
I am a staunch believer in the sneakers can be worn with anything school of thought ☺ Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against heels but the comfort you get from a pair of sneakers cannot be compared to anything. For today's challenge, I put together this outfit starting with the sneakers. I absolutely love these pink shoes. Not only are they super comfy but they add a much needed punch of colour to any and all outfits. To allow the sneakers to stand out, I wore them with a black midi skirt and fitted top. The skirt has some fullness which I thought would contrast well with the fitted top. For accessories I opted for gold earrings and necklace. As this challenge called for a swap, I felt the outfit needed to be one that I would ordinarily wear with heels or nice flats and the sneakers would be an unexpected twist. What do you think of this outfit? Would you swap your heels for sneakers?   Outfit Details: Skirt: Thrifted (Gikomba) Top and Sneakers: ...

Style Challenge Day 10 - Keep it Simple in Skinnies and a Sweater

Image
This is the ultimate lazy day outfit for me: skinnies and a sweater. It's simple, comfortable and doesn't require too much thought. When it comes to sweaters, I like to pick those with interesting details like graphics, text or maybe colours. While I love neutral colours, I wouldn't shy away from sweaters with bold colours. To make the outfit look even more intentional and not like I had just thrown on the first thing I saw, I tied a scarf as a bow on my head. Simple black flats and brass earrings completed the look. Some days call for simplicity and today's challenge was just that. Style Challenge Day 9 - Wear a Colour You Haven't Worn in a Long Time

Image
When it comes to colour, I usually tell myself that I am quite adventurous. But when I look at my closet, I seem to have clothes in certain colours only. Today's challenge was indeed a challenge! I couldn't find a colour in my closet that I hadn't worn this recently, except this neon green poncho. I usually wear it only during the cold season. But this year I was more into coats than sweaters and ponchos. Thus, it ended up stuck in my closet waiting for another day when I would wear it. Who knew this challenge would give it a chance to see daylight. Since the neon green stands out so much, I opted for black trousers and black shoes. I chose statement earrings as these were the only accessories I was planning to wear. What colours do you wear less frequently? Do share in the comments below.   Outfit Details: Poncho: old Trousers: Gift Shoes: Bus Station, Nairobi

Style Challenge Day 8: Wear At Least 3 Layers

Image
Baby it's cold out. I took advantage of the sudden deep in temperatures and erratic rain to try out day 8's challenge. Basically, I was to wear at least 3 layers together. What better time to try styling layers than when the weather is being bipolar. For this look I started with a pair of cropped jeans and a striped button down shirt. I then added a light  black jumper, dark grey coat and a long black trench coat for some added warmth. Would you wear at least three layers of clothing? Style Challenge Day 7: Wear Something You Haven't Worn in 6 Months

Image
I last wore this white drop-waist dress a few months ago and then it became a passive resident of my closet. Even though I have been trying to get rid of clothes that I haven't worn at all or in a the last 3 to 6 months, there are some pieces that I can never put away. This dress is one such piece. For styling, I opted for a statement necklace, navy and white flats and my trusty old red lip.   Outfit Details: Dress: Thrifted (Gikomba) Flats: Bus Station, Nairobi Necklace: Gift Thank you for stopping by. xo

Style Challenge Day 6: Wear A Bold Print

Image
Hi guys. Phew! Last week was so crazy I couldn't keep up with everything, case in point my 30 day style challenge and weekly video. But I just had to get back to it this week. For day 6, I had to put on a bold print. I don't know if you have noticed but I am not very big on prints. Every time I shop, I automatically go for solid colours and if I pick prints it will inevitably be either stripes or florals. So for this challenge, I opted for a more abstract print. I love the colours of this tunic-style top. The chiffon fabric is light and breezy making it perfect for the warmer weather. I paired it with off-white skinny jeans and some beaded sandals. These sandals are a cross between flip-flops and sliders. I haven't worn such sandals in years so it was nice having a change from my usual shoes. I do believe however, that I need to open up a little to bolder prints and consequently add them to my closet.  Outfit Details: Top and sandals: Gift Jeans: Thrifted (G...

Style Challenge Day 5: Wear Something You Have Been Saving

Image
I have a bad habit. Many times I buy clothes and shoes and "save" them for that special occasion where I will wow people with my amazing outfit. Then I end up keeping that item of clothing for weeks, months and sometimes years before I wear it. For this challenge, I picked this bustier midi dress that I have had for more than a year but haven't worn yet. The dress has a gold layer of fabric underneath the tulle giving it that little something that makes it unique. I paired it with my navy cropped blazer whose colour I thought toned down the brightness of the dress a little. For accessories, I picked a statement necklace and my new tan brown flatforms.   Outfit Details: Dress & Blazer: Thrifted (Gikomba) Shoes : Bus Station, Nairobi Necklace: IG (@thrift_away_) Thank you for stopping by. xo
