FASHION COMMENTARY: What is Personal Style?

Image
Hello lovelies! When I started getting more interested in fashion, I didn't have access to magazines like InStyle, Vogue etc. So I went online and discovered fashion blogs (how I ended up starting one is another story). I delved into them and read them as if I would be tested. I was that fascinated. But with this new world came a whole host of words whose meaning I did not know. With time, of course, I came to understand them and even use them on a daily basis. First among them was the phrase personal style. ...by reading this blog, I hope to help people discover and maintain their unique personal style and move Inches to Style. ~ i2s Mission Statement When explaining what my blog is about (read about Inches to Style here), I stress that I want to help people discover their personal style, to develop it and learn to maintain it. But what is personal style? You hear so much about personal style blogs but what does that even mean?  From my understanding, perso...

i2s FASHION COMMENTARY

Image
Hello lovelies! When I started Inches To Style, I was very inspired by the fashion scene in Kenya, more-so in Nairobi, my home town. As much as fashion has really come up in the city, I couldn't help but notice that many women and men wore clothes just because they were on fashion and disregarded whether or not the particular outfit was suitable for the occasion and their body type or not. From time to time, I have made commentaries on fashion scenes I have witnessed in Nairobi. My most recent post being about visible bras . I have since decided to put these commentaries under one topic, hence i2s Fashion Commentary . Here you will get my personal opinion on fashion choices made by Kenyan men andwomen (and that may also be applicable to other men and women around the world). Some of these topics will have been requested by you my readers (I will mention the person who requested a topic in the post). I will also give style tips on more suitable ways to wear the item be...

Commentary: Men Too Can Dress Up

**** In this post I'll be writing about different aspects of men's dressing (and clothing), as well as current trends for guys  as a response/ request from Sudi who wrote: But please don't forget the men. There are a whole lot of us out there that need advise when it comes to fashion.  I will also give you some styling ideas using items of clothing that are already in your wardrobe as much as possible.  Why is it that when women tend to spend a lot of time, energy and resources in ensuring that they are always well dressed, men seem to think they have a free pass. I once encountered a guy who thought that because a certain party was being held at the house just opposite his, he could attend it in slippers and shorts that he’d been putting on for a week. “Anyway, it’s not as if it’s going to be something high flying. It’s just a simple farewell party.” He said to me. I was both shocked and disappointed because there I was wondering whether I’d chosen an appropriate out...

Style And Elegance Is Within Your Reach

Ever observed how people are very careful about their wardrobe choices when they are going to a wedding? They take extra care to look their best from head to toe. The day before, said ladies will be found in the salon getting their hair done, maybe a facial and a manicure and pedicure too. The men too go extra lengths to make sure they are not left behind by the ladies.  I always marvel at how well turned out people are when they are going for weddings. However, being smart and stylish shouldn’t be reserved for celebrities or for special occasions, case in point weddings. Men as well as women can look elegant and stylish on a day to day basis. This doesn’t mean that you have to redo your wardrobe and reach further into your already tight budget and buy expensive clothes and accessories. If you are a wise shopper, you can ensure that any piece of clothing you buy can be worn in a variety of ways, both formal and casual. When I was studying in India, I always marvelled at how...
