Hi all!
Christmas is next week and the week after that we will be
ringing in the New Year. This time of year is usually characterized by numerous
parties such as office Christmas parties, wedding parties, not to mention New
Year’s Eve parties. As much as you would enjoy attending one party after
another (I mean, you spent the whole year working so hard, you definitely need
a break), style-wise this time of year could be a nightmare. Even though this
year attending any parties is the last thing on my mind (maternity woes!), I thought
I would share some of the celebrity looks that I have seen lately that I think
would be suitable for all the parties during this holiday season.
Stripes
Stripes have been a major trend this year. I saw Lupita
Nyong’o in this striped black and white gown and I fell in love with the style.
This gown has two of my favorite elements put together. It is striped and is
black and white, two of my favorite trends of 2013. When worn correctly,
stripes will flatter any body type. Whether vertical, horizontal or diagonal,
you can wear stripes to flatter your curves and look absolutely chic this
holiday season.
Pants and Sheer Top
If dresses are not your thing, or you want to change up your
style, you can look extremely chic in a pants and top combo. Miley Cyrus
finally got it right in my books in this outfit. She has been missing the mark
for a while what with her attempts at changing her image. But for once I
actually liked her red carpet choice. Your regular office pants especially the
wide leg variety or those with pockets will look festive enough for holiday
parties when paired with cute blouses preferably lace or sheer. Add pumps,
flashy jewellery, a red lip and clutch bag and you are bound to turn heads at
the next party you attend.
Jumpsuits
Contrary to popular belief, jumpsuits can look flattering on
just about anyone. All you have to do is make sure that you choose a flattering
style like this white one worn by Naya Riviera of Glee. I get a little bugged when I see ladies wearing jumpsuits made of very
flimsy fabric roaming around the streets of Nairobi. Half the time, the fit is
inadequate and you end up looking like you’re trying too hard. Be adventurous
and choose colors and styles that are flattering and not just those that are
readily available in the market.
Classics
The little black dress is a classic choice for a day and
night out. Whether your wardrobe contains one or two or more little black
dresses, be adventurous with your accessories and make-up. Statement jewellery,
bold lipstick, a smokey eye and a chic pair of heels or flats will transform
your ordinary little black dress into a party outfit. Do not restrict yourself
to blacks. You can wear nudes, reds, whites or whichever is your current
favorite color.
